From South Africa to Kansas City: A Rugby Song with a Bigger Purpose.

One song. Two countries. One beautiful game.

Rugby has a way of bringing people together. It crosses borders, connects generations, and creates a sense of belonging that goes far beyond the field. For us at Drop In with Naas and Ryan, rugby is more than just a sport. It is part of who we are, where we come from, and what we want to share with others.

That is what inspired our latest project: a song and music video celebrating rugby, South African culture, and our mission to grow the game here in the United States.

Written by South African artist Robbie Wessels, the song captures the spirit of rugby and the connection between South Africa and America. It brings together the traditions we grew up with and the excitement of sharing the game with a new audience. We recently filmed the music video, and we are excited to share it with everyone on November 21, alongside the South Africa vs. Ireland match.

But this project is about more than releasing a song. It is about telling a story.

Bringing a Little South Africa to the USA

In South Africa, rugby is woven into everyday life. It is the green and gold jerseys, the conversations before kick-off, the celebrations after a big win, and the memories passed down from one generation to the next. It is the feeling of standing alongside thousands of other supporters, all united by a shared love for the game.

For many South Africans living in the United States, rugby is also a connection to home. Watching a Springboks match can bring back memories, familiar traditions, and a sense of community, even when home is thousands of miles away.

Through Drop In with Naas and Ryan, we want to share that passion with the American audience. We want people who grew up watching rugby to feel at home, while introducing those who may be discovering the sport for the first time to everything that makes it special.

And what better way to do that than through music?

Music has a way of telling stories that statistics and scoreboards cannot. It captures the emotion, pride, humour, and excitement that make rugby what it is. This song celebrates our South African roots while embracing the place we now call home: Kansas City.

Why Growing Rugby in America Matters

Rugby has a tremendous opportunity to grow in the United States, and we are excited to be part of that journey.

The game offers something unique. It combines physicality with strategy, individual skill with teamwork, and fierce competition with a deep respect for opponents. There is a place for different shapes, sizes, strengths, and personalities on a rugby team. Most importantly, the sport has a remarkable ability to bring people together.

For those of us who love rugby, sharing the game with others is something worth investing in. That might mean explaining the rules to someone watching for the first time, introducing a friend to a local club, sharing stories about legendary players, or simply inviting someone to watch a match.

Every new fan is an opportunity for the game to grow.

The United States also has some exciting rugby milestones on the horizon. The country is set to host the Men’s Rugby World Cup in 2031 and the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2033. These tournaments will give American audiences an opportunity to experience rugby on a global stage and could help introduce the sport to an entirely new generation of supporters.

Kansas City has also pursued the opportunity to become a host city for the 2031 tournament. For us, the possibility of bringing Rugby World Cup action to a city we are proud to call home makes the future of the game here even more exciting.

There is so much potential, and we believe that building excitement around rugby starts long before the first whistle of a World Cup match. It starts with the people, the stories, and the communities that make the sport special.

That is where we hope to play our part.

More Than a Music Video

Filming this music video was an exciting step in bringing that vision to life. Behind every project like this are people who share the same enthusiasm, a lot of preparation, and the excitement of seeing an idea become something real.

For us, the song represents the connection between two countries and the opportunity to celebrate both. It reflects where we come from, the game we love, and our desire to help rugby find an even bigger audience in America.

And, of course, it would not be Drop In with Naas and Ryan without a little fun along the way.

We want this project to feel welcoming. You do not have to be a lifelong rugby supporter to enjoy it. You do not need to know every rule or recognise every player. Sometimes, all it takes is a great song, a good story, or the atmosphere of a big match to spark an interest in the game.

If the music video gets someone curious about rugby, encourages them to watch a match, or helps bring a few more people together around the sport, then it has already served a purpose.

Join Us on November 21

We will officially release the music video on November 21, alongside the South Africa vs. Ireland match. It is a fitting occasion to share a song that celebrates South African rugby and the excitement of bringing that passion to the United States.

We hope it brings a smile to the faces of South Africans who recognise a little piece of home, while giving American rugby fans another reason to celebrate the game.

More than anything, we hope it reflects what Drop In with Naas and Ryan is all about sharing stories, celebrating rugby, building connections, and helping the game grow.

Because rugby is not just about what happens on the field. It is about the people who play it, the people who support it, and the communities that form around it.

And whether you grew up in South Africa, discovered rugby in the United States, or are only just getting to know the game, there is a place for you in this story.

We put SA in the USA. Under Kansas City lights, we are bringing people together through the game we love.

Come drop in for some rugby with Ryan and Naas.
